Age Record and Correction Thereof
Regulation under section 39(2) XXIV of the East Pakistan Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance, 1961 regarding age record and correction thereof. (Published in the Dhaka gazette, par$ I, dated the 15th September, 1966)
1. In each case of first admission, the correct date of birth of the student so far .it can be ascertained from his horoscope, baptismal certificate, abstract from birth register or other satisfactory documentary evidence should be recorded and such entry should be attested by the student's father or legal guardian (if the father is not alive) so that its correctness may not be subsequently challenged.
2. An attestation of a student's age statement by father or legal guardian (if the father is not alive) is necessary only in cases of first admission to an institution and not on occasions of transfer from one institution to another.
Note - Schools or Institutions occurring In these rules will mean any recognised institution under the Board.
3. Students coming on transfer from unrecognised School, must get their Transfer Certificates countersigned by the Inspector/ Inspectress of Schools or District Education Officer before the date of birth recorded in the Transfer Certificate can be accepted.
4. In case of reasonable doubt Heads of Schools may ask for an attestation of a student's age statement by his father or the legal guardian (if the father is not alive).
5. The entry of date of birth of students of classes IX and X as recorded in the Admission Register must not be altered without previous permission of the Board.
Note - Cases of correction of date of birth of students of classes 1 to Vffl are to be disposed of by the Deputy Director of public Instruction.
6. Applications for correction of date of birth of students of classes IX and X or those who have already appeared at the Secondary School Certificate Examination may be considered by the Board within two years from the date of his/her first appearing in such Examination.
7. Applications for correction of date of birth is to be submitted in prescribed form, (as prescribed by the Board) duly supported by (i) an affidavit sworn in before a First Class Magistrate by the father or legal guardian, if a father is not alive and (ii) with requisite fee for the purpose.
8. In respect of regular students the form is to be submitted through the Headmaster/ Headmistress of the Institution in which the candidate is reading or from which the candidate appeared at the Secondary School Certificate Examination, as the case may be, and in respect of Private candidates the form is to be duly attested by a Gazetted Officer under his official seal.
9. The Head of the Institution or the Gazetted Officer forwarding a case of correction of date of birth will certify whether he/she has personally investigated the case and whether in his/her opinion the case is a bonafide one and deserves favorable consideration by the Board.
10. The candidate will be asked to appear before the Age Correction committee of the Board on an appointed date and time at his/her own cost for consideration of the prayer for correction of date of birth if the application is found in order.
11. The candidate will be required to be identified before the Age Correction Committee in person by a Gazetted Officer/the Head of the respective institution/a member of the Age Correction Committee. Identification by photograph duly attested by a Gazetted Officer or the Head of the respective Institution will do if identification in person is not possible.
12. The Age Correction Committee when satisfied may accept the date of birth prayed for. If, however, they consider that the date of birth prayed for is not within the range of probability they may either reject the prayer or fix up a date of birth. The decision of the Age Correction Committee shall be binding on the applicant.
13. A candidate, if fails to appear before the Age Correction Committee on the appointed date and time, may be allowed two more chances to appear before the Committee provided he/she can satisfactorily explain his/her absence from the meeting.
14. Fees once deposited in connection with correction of date of birth of a candidate will in no case be refunded. The Affidavit submitted by a candidate may, however, be returned when demanded in case his/her case has been rejected by the Committee.
15. In any matter not covered by the foregoing regulations, the Chairman of the Board shall have power to decide according to his discretion and such decision shall be final.
